Google’s Own Assistant-Powered Smart Speakers with Displays!
After allowing various famous hardware brand names to manufacture Assistant-powered smart speakers with displays, Google itself is now venturing into the same. According to a new report from Nikkei Asian Review (NAR), Google plans to launch its own smart assistant speaker with a display, later this year. It would be a major rival to the Amazon’s screen-equipped Echo Show and other similar devices from major brands. As per NAR, Google‘s smart display speaker will be manufactured by Pegatron (a firm that is the rival of Apple’s iPhone manufacturing partner, Foxconn) in Taiwan.
Are Smart Assistants in Demand?
According to a research firm Canalys, Amazon sold just 315,000 Echo Shows in 2017. This means that there is a great possibility for Google to sell more of these devices to new customers in the coming time. So, Google has a chance of making great money. In fact, as per an industry source, Google targets to launch 3 million units for the first batch of the smart speaker.
Benefits of Smart Speakers With Displays
Smart speakers with displays offer a number of benefits. When a screen is there, it is easy to browse information, read recipes, watch videos, adjust settings and much more. They are very easy to use in situations and places where hands-free screens are helpful, such as the kitchen. However, despite these benefits, it’s not clear that such devices can compete with tablets and laptops.

What Advantage Does Google Have Over Amazon?
All such smart speakers are quite similar in terms of hardware and configuration, and they’re distinguished by the apps and services they support. Google may have few advantages over Amazon as it can easily offer YouTube and Spotify, stream audio or video via Chromecast, and more such stuff.
Would There Be Play Store Also Available?
Well, this is not said or confirmed. But, it would be great to access the Google Play Store, so as to get more out the smart display. Without the Play Store, the apps and services are limited. With the app store, you can expand the device’s functionality to do stuff like play Netflix videos or read blogs, etc.
The current smart speaker types of Google includes the Google Home, Google Home Mini, and Google Home Max. Though it’s quite a broad range, but it is not as extensive as Amazon’s. Amazon includes similar smart devices along with the alarm clock-sized Echo Spot and a grander Echo Show. In the coming days, we’ll for sure find out if Google plans similar devices like Amazon.
